Darkest Hour (2 of 5 stars) This biopic about British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman in pounds of prosthetic makeup) — and how he fought incredible odds in the early days of World War II — has been the talk of the awards season. With its true-story material and renowned talent involved, it checks a lot of boxes. Regretfully, the film is a bit of a chore to sit through, with only Oldman's performance being the saving grace. But is it worth sitting through two-hours of British men smoking in rooms and shouting? I think not. Rated PG-13, 125 minutes. At the Angelika Film Center in Plano and Landmark Magnolia in Dallas.
