Bobby Cates is the new pastor at First Baptist Church Argyle. He was previously the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Slidell, where he served for nine years. Before that he was the youth minister for eight years.
Cates earned his Bachelor of Science in journalism and Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of North Texas. He received his Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He and his wife, Julie, have three children.
"First Baptist Church Argyle is already doing exciting things," Cates said.
Among those he listed are the growing participation in the Bible study class, church members going to Vancouver, British Columbia, to help strengthen the churches there and members of the church making trips to South Texas to help Hurricane Harvey flood victims.
Church member Jeremy McDaniel, with the aid of his parents and other church members to collect supplies, made his first trip to Houston to help flood victims with a truck load of baby formula and medical supplies. On his second trip, five church members accompanied him to Orange, Beaumont and Vidor to take a truckload of food, water, trash bags and gloves, as well as transport a 20-foot trailer load of hay and a small boat.
McDaniel said if anyone needs transportation to send supplies to help the flood victims, call him at the church, 940-464-7224.
