Richard and Marji Bentley celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Thursday June 14, 2012 with a reception at Good Samaritan Society, Denton Village.
They were married in the Thorndike-Hilton Chapel on the University of Chicago campus and honeymooned in the Great Smokey Mountains before moving to Redfield, South Dakota; Los Angeles, California; Winfield, Kansas; Napa, California and finally to Denton, Texas.
Their three children are Richard, Beth and Martha (all graduates of Denton High School) and two grandchildren are Philip Bentley-Gates and Hope Bentley-Hutchison.
Richard, Professor Emeritus, retired from Texas Woman’s University.Marji continues to teach in her private Violin/Viola Studio.Both were active in the Denton First United Methodist Church where they se4rved on various committees and boards.They are active in professional associations and the Denton Kiwanis Club.
Richard is a WWII veteran with service in the South Pacific (1942-1945) in the 129th Infantry Regimental Band and 37th Infantry Division Band.He was stationed on Vita Levu, Fiji; Espirito Santo, New Hebrides; Bougaiville, Solomon Islands and Luzon, Philippine Islands where they liberated the military and civilian prisoners of war.
