Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mayhew of Denton, Texas observed their 50th wedding anniversary on September 6, 2013. They were married in Sparkman, Arkansas in 1963.
Mrs. Mayhew is the former Shelby Sue Lea. She attended Sparkman High School and Henderson State University. She was active in the Western Little League and Pine Bluff District Little League both as a parent and officer for 10 years. After 32 years in the business field as an office manager, secretary and bookkeeper, she is retired.
Mr. Mayhew is from Conway, Arkansas, entered the United States Navy at the age of 17, was in the Vietnam War, and later received his BSE from Southern State College, Magnolia, Arkansas. He was a teacher and coach in the Marshall, Texas school system prior to going into the rail industry with Cotton Belt Railroad in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 31 years, in 2003. He received his Masters Degree from TWU in Denton, Texas in 2003, where he was an adjunct instructor of American History until he was hired as a Professor of American and Texas History at Collin College, in McKinney, Texas.
They are the parents of two sons, Pete Mayhew, deployed to the middle east with DynCorp Int'l, and Paul Mayhew of Denton.
