Denton County sheriff’s investigators are looking into a fight among members of an extended family in the Lantana neighborhood Wednesday.
A couple and their small daughter met a deputy in Bartonville to report an assault. The three live in the 8400 block of Marsh Street with the wife’s parents, her brother, his girlfriend and their child, according to the report.
The victim said she was in her daughter’s room and found a glass pipe with marijuana residue inside. She believes her brother and his girlfriend smoke the controlled substance, and she confronted the girlfriend with the pipe, she told a deputy. The girlfriend became so hostile that she gave her the pipe to avoid trouble, the victim said.
Later, the parents called a family meeting. They gathered around the kitchen table to talk over the problem. The child said she was recently awakened at night by her uncle playing a video game in her room. She noticed that he had the pipe in his mouth and could smell a strong, bad odor, she said. The brother then became irate and hit his sister in the head with his fists, according to the report, and then he threw a chair at her.
The girlfriend grabbed the victim by the ear and slammed her head against a counter, the report states.
The victim’s husband intervened and the parents, who own the home, told them to leave in order to calm the situation, according to the report. They contacted the sheriff’s office and the investigation is continuing.
Other reports
1900 block of Whippoorwill Street — A woman told Denton police Thursday that someone apparently deliberately made four holes in her roof.
She said her roof began leaking and she asked a worker to place a tarp over it until she could contact her insurance company. The worker told her he had done the same thing for one of her neighbors. He said in both cases four round holes had been made with a sharp instrument in the roof. The woman had no idea why someone would have damaged her roof, according to the report.
1600 block of Teasley Lane — A convenience store employee reported at about 3:40 a.m. Friday that he was in a back room of the store and when he walked back into the sales area, he saw a man running out the door. The man, whom he has seen in the store before, he said, grabbed a donation jar from the counter near the cash register as he left.
The donation jar was for a children’s program and contained between $50 and $100, according to the report.
