Lewisville officers shot and killed a man Wednesday night after he raised his weapon toward officers and refused to drop it when they commanded him to, Lewisville police said.

Roger Preston Hamill, 31, of Durant, Okla. was taken to Medical Center of Lewisville where he was pronounced dead, according to a Lewisville police news release.

Three Lewisville officers are on paid administrative leave, pending the results of a routine investigation by the Texas Rangers into the shooting.

Police reported they were responding to a call of an aggravated assault in the 500 block of East Round Grove Road. A caller said a man walked up to a vehicle in a drive-through window at a restaurant, showed a handgun and threatened the driver.

Witnesses gave a description of the man and his vehicle and officers made a traffic stop in that same shopping center complex.

They reported Hamill got out of that vehicle with his gun in hand and when officers ordered him to drop it, he raised it in their direction.

The officers’ identities have not been released.
