Blotter: Investigators seek to unravel stories about fray

A Text Size

Denton County sheriff's investigators are sorting out the stories of two women who apparently fought at a bus stop Friday afternoon.

Investigators advised the husband of one of the women that he should stay out of the fray or risk arrest.

The first woman called for help, saying that she was walking with her children from the bus stop in the 4000 block of Thousand Oaks Drive near Argyle when she spotted the other woman driving very slowly. The other woman drove at her, she said, and at a slow speed bumped her with the car. She said the other woman then got out of her car and grabbed the first woman's small daughter and threw her into a ditch.

The first woman said she didn't know why the second woman assaulted her and her child but said they have a continuing disagreement over a shared trash bin.

The deputy then contacted the second woman. She denied bumping the first woman with her car. She said she was driving slowly because the bus had just let a number of children off. She said as she passed the first woman, that woman began yelling and cursing at her.

She said she got out of her car and the first woman stepped backward, stumbling and falling into the ditch and taking her little girl tumbling with her.

She said she ran to the aid of the little girl and the first woman screamed and cursed her, telling her to take her hands off the child.

The first woman knocked her glasses off, the second woman said, and they began to fight with their fists. They are angry over a trash bin, she said, which she helps pay for but the other woman won't allow her to use.

She said that since they parted, she already has received threatening telephone calls from the first woman's father and husband.

Then the deputy learned that the first woman's husband was on the telephone with emergency operators. He was angry because his wife told him that the deputy did not take a report, according to the report, and he demanded that the second woman be jailed. If not, he said, he would take matters into his own hands.

The deputy then went back to talk to the first woman.

Under questioning, she said that the second woman did not throw her child into the ditch but said the child was knocked into the ditch by the second woman's car.

She denied telling her husband that the deputy took no report.

Then the deputy talked to the husband, who denied talking aggressively to the 911 operator.

The deputy told both women to stay away from each other.

Later that evening, the second woman called 911. She said the first woman's husband and uncle were standing outside her house yelling and threatening her.

The deputy drove by the house but no one was in sight, according to the report. An investigation is continuing.

Other reports

1500 block of South Loop 288 - A man reported to Denton police Sunday that a couple who gave him a ride drove off with his backpack and duffel bag.

The man said he was in a large store talking to an employee and he asked the employee for a ride to downtown.

He got in a car with the employee and the employee's wife. Then he asked them if they would first stop at a house in Southeast Denton so he could speak to a friend.

Once at the house, the couple became nervous and called the area "dangerville." He said they were racially prejudiced and that was the reason they didn't like the area, according to the report.

When he got out of the car to visit with his friend, the couple drove away with his belongings still in the trunk, the report states.

He didn't know their names but said they were a "tall, thin, goofy-looking white guy with black hair," and his "crackhead" white wife.

The victim showed obvious signs of intoxication, according to the report, and was jailed on a public intoxication charge.

600 block of East Hickory Street - A man contacted police Sunday to report that he has a counterfeit $100 bill that was given to him in the course of his business.

He said he runs a tow business and deals a great deal in cash, so he is not sure where the bill came from.
