Blotter: Report: Running, unlocked car stolen from parking lot

A Text Size

A thief apparently looking for a warm ride took a woman's car from an apartment complex parking lot early Thursday.

The woman told police that her boyfriend started her 2003 Hyundai in the 5300 block of East McKinney Street about 6:20 a.m. It was still there at 6:30 a.m. when he left for work, according to the report. But when she went outside at 6:40 a.m., the car was no longer in the parking lot.

The key was in the ignition and the doors weren't locked, according to the report.

Other reports

1200 block of Fort Worth Drive - A witness called 911 Wednesday to report that a man was pulling on vehicle door handles at a business across the street.

Before the caller hung up the phone, the man opened an unlocked door on a pickup and climbed inside, according to a police report.

Arriving officers found the man in the pickup and reported he had cut wires to a speaker and had placed a GPS device in a bag.

The man told officers he was inside the truck because people were shooting at him. He appeared to be confused and disoriented and insisted that four people were inside the truck, though the officers confirmed no one was there.

The owner declined to press charges, and the man was turned over to mental health investigators, who took him to a hospital for evaluation.

Unincorporated Denton County - A woman told sheriff's deputies that a man she dated three years ago is harassing her.

She said that when they broke up, she kept their dog. Last June, the man filed suit to retrieve the dog but did not show up for the court date, according to the report.

He has been regularly sending text messages demanding custody of the dog, she said. After sending a text Wednesday asking him to stop bothering her, the woman said she has received 22 texts about the dog.

1600 block of Trent Road, unincorporated Denton County - A man reported that someone poisoned his dogs.

He said one of his large dogs became violently ill a week ago, and he took it to a veterinarian for treatment. The dog died, and the vet said it had ingested antifreeze. On Wednesday, the man found his other dog dead in the front yard.

He said the dogs run freely but only visit his neighbor across the street. The deputy found two recent complaints about the dogs being loose in the neighborhood.
