A house fire displaced a family of four early Wednesday.

Denton firefighters were dispatched to the 3600 block of Valley View Road shortly after 5 a.m.

Brad Lahart, spokesman for the Denton Fire Department, said a resident awoke to the sound of a smoke detector and saw smoke and flames in the house, prompting a 911 call.

Firefighters reported smoke billowing from the front door upon arrival. Lahart said the fire started in the garage and spread. The American Red Cross was called to the residence and met with the family, consisting of two adults and two children, to help with temporary necessities.

The fire was put out within 16 minutes of arrival, Lahart said, and no injuries were reported. Denton fire officials were still investigating the cause.
