Blotter: Investigation of shooting near Sanger underway

An investigation is underway after a homeowner shot an intruder shortly before lunchtime Friday in the 13000 block of Cash’s Mill Road, officials said.

“The homeowner fired his gun and the suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” according to Sandi Brackeen in a prepared statement from the Denton County Sheriff’s Office.

This was the second time in a week the homeowner near Sanger had been burglarized, officials said.

One male and one female, ages unknown, were taken into custody Friday afternoon in connection with the incident and Brackeen said the two are being looked at for additional area burglaries.

No additional information was available late Friday, Brackeen said.

9900 block of Interstate 35E — A deputy constable accidentally shot himself in the left hand during firearms training at the Denton County Gun Range, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. Thursday, according to Denton County sheriff’s reports.

3400 block of Bob-O-Link Lane — Denton police broke up an early-morning fight Thursday. According to reports, a group of women were in the street fighting at 2:57 a.m. Thursday. Three women — ranging from 24 to 28 years old — were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct/fighting in public and public intoxication/alcohol.


Denton County sheriff’s dispatchers handled 575 service and officer-initiated calls and booked 46 people into Denton County Jail.

Denton police responded to 268 service and officer-initiated calls and posted 16 reports online.

Denton firefighters responded to 18 medical calls, one downed power line, one smoke/odor removal and one motor vehicle accident.
