Blotter: Woman arrested after trying to cash check

A 31-year-old woman who attempted to cash a forged bank check for $16,000 Thursday at a business on University Drive wound up in the Denton city jail, police said.

The woman was charged with forgery of a financial instrument and failure to identify giving false/fictitious information, according to the police report.

1900 block of Jasmine Street — Police responded to an assault call at 4:20 a.m. Thursday.

According to a police report, a 21-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were involved in a physical altercation. Police said no injuries were observed and both individuals were released pending further investigation.

5300 block of East McKinney Street — A 46-year-old woman told police Thursday that a neighbor had been stealing her medication.

From 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday:

* Denton County sheriff’s dispatchers handled 781 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve. Twenty-five people were booked into Denton County Jail.

* Denton police handled 290 service and officer-initiated calls and posted 17 reports online.

* Denton firefighters responded to 14 medical calls and two traffic accidents.
