8 a.m. — Activities at the Johnson Branch Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park include a “Flying Feathered Friends” 1-mile hike at 8 a.m.; Vanishing Prairies Trail half-mile hike at 10 a.m.; and “Bird Watching Basics” at 2 p.m. Meet at Pavilion 1 at the park, on FM3002, 7 miles east of I-35. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — American Red Cross community blood drive in the gymnasium of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Oak St. Potential donors must have a photo ID, be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for low-to-moderate-income families at North Branch Library, 3020 N. Locust St. To qualify, a household’s annual income must be $50,000 or less. Free. Call 940-566-2688.

9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. — Ray Rock, a benefit for Raylyn’s Heart Foundation, at the Campus Theater, 214 W. Hickory St. Live music starts at 11 a.m. and includes New VooDoo, Josh Knight & the Vintage Experience, Victor Gann, Crossing Main and more. 10 a.m. — Story Time at South Branch Library, 3228 Teasley Lane. Stories, songs, puppets and more for children ages 1-5 and their caregivers. Free. Call 940-349-8752.

10 a.m. — Nature photography workshop at the Isle du Bois Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park, on FM455, 10 miles east of I-35. Workshop is for adults who are already familiar with operating a camera. Meet at the interpretive center and bring a digital single-lens reflex camera. Free with regular park entrance fee of $7. 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. — African Violet Show and Sale presented by First African Violet Society of Denton, in Erwin Hall of First Presbyterian Church of Denton, 1114 W. University Drive. Free. Visit http://favsd.org.

2 p.m. — Fundraiser for Take a Soldier Fishing at American Legion Post 550, 905 Foundation Drive in Pilot Point. Event includes a fish fry, auction and raffles. Catfish or chicken strip meals will be available for a $7.95 donation.

3 to 4 p.m. — “Migration Routes,” a program on the migration patterns of immigrants to America, at Emily Fowler Central Library, 502 Oakland St. Free. Call 940-349-8752 to register.

2:30 p.m. Saturday — Faction Before Blood Movie Release Party celebrating the release of “Divergent,” based on Veronica Roth’s young adult novel, at North Branch Library, 3020 N. Locust St. Event for ages 11-17 includes themed snacks, crafts and games. Free. To register, call 940-349-8741.
