Blotter: Police investigate report of improper student-teacher relationship at Ryan High

Denton police are investigating reports of an improper relationship between a substitute teacher and a student at Ryan High School. 

According to police spokesman Shane Kizer, a Ryan High staff member reported the alleged incident involving a male substitute teacher and a 17-year-old female student to an administrator Wednesday morning. Police would not identify the suspect.

Denton ISD spokesman Mario Zavala said the administration looked into the matter and turned the investigation over to police. Zavala added that administrators reached out to the substitute and he is no longer employed with the district.

No arrests have been made and no other details about the investigation have been made public. An improper student/teacher relationship is a second-degree felony and punishable by up to 20 years in state prison and a $10,000 fine.

1200 block of Hickory Creek Road — Denton police found a vehicle Wednesday containing dozens of bikes that were reportedly stolen from McNair Elementary School.

A caller reported the theft at 12:51 p.m. Wednesday and provided the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle. Police found the vehicle with the bikes and returned them to the school, according to a police report. The report did not include the location of the vehicle. 

Police have not identified the owners of the bikes, the report said. Officers can obtain arrest warrants once they confirm whether the bicycle owners want to press charges.

No arrests were made.

2300 block of Lookout Lane — Multiple vehicles were burglarized in a northwest Denton neighborhood before officers were dispatched to the scene at about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday.

A man said his vehicle had been unlocked in his driveway overnight. He woke to find the vehicle's doors wide open and items missing from inside, according to a police report.

The report said several other vehicles had been burglarized in the neighborhood but did not provide further details. No arrests were made.

600 block of South Interstate 35E — An unidentified person was cited Wednesday after the manager of a Super 8 motel said the person was staying in a room without permission, according to a police report.

A Denton police officer arrived on the scene and spoke with the suspect. The suspect admitted to possessing drug paraphernalia, the report said. The person was issued a citation for possession of paraphernalia and ordered off the property.

The suspect was released from the scene.

1200 block of Cleveland Street — A $5,000 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday from the Gateway at Denton apartments.  

The victim, a 25-year-old man, could not recognize the suspect when presented with surveillance footage of the incident, according to a police report. No arrests were made.  


From 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday:

The Denton County Sheriff's Office handled 943 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies it serves, and 45 people were booked into Denton County Jail.

Denton firefighters responded to 10 medical calls, one vehicle crash and two building fires.

Denton police posted 19 reports online.
