TWU awarded nearly $1 million for scholarships
A federal grant will now make it easier for Texas Woman's University to help economically disadvantaged students pursue a degree in health care
A $968,220 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration, awarded through the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Program, will provide scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in nursing, dental hygiene, dietetics or speech pathology, or graduate degrees in nursing, physical therapy or occupational therapy.
Last year, TWU awarded a total of 322 scholarships to nursing and occupational therapy students with funding from a $900,000 grant.

Provost to take part in reading program
Dr. Robert Neely, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Texas Woman's University, will be a guest reader for the community summer reading program hosted by the TWU chapter of the Association of Texas Professional Educators.
Neely, who became TWU provost in January, will read to children at 11 a.m. July 20 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Golden Triangle Mall, 2201 S. Interstate 35E in Denton.
The children's summer reading program is held from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesdays through Aug. 3. Sessions include a story, activities and crafts developed by TWU education students.
Denton Mayor Mark Burroughs will be a guest reader for the program July 27.
