TWU G-Force students to participate in telethon
Members of the Texas Woman’s University G-Force, a first-generation college student mentor organization promoting access to higher education, will be part of a panel answering phones during a statewide financial aid telethon broadcast today.
The College Access and Affordability Telethon will be broadcast in North Texas on Univision, local channel 23, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today as part of Texas’ Financial Aid Awareness Month activities.
The Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) sponsor annual College Access and Affordability Telethons, which provide information to families and students about college financial aid during normally scheduled local news telecasts in English and Spanish throughout the state.
According to TG, using television stations’ ability to reach mass audiences provides key messaging on the importance of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) forms. Callers receive assistance from trained volunteers from TG, the THECB, secondary and postsecondary institutions and community-based organizations.
More information about the Feb. 20 telethon, including a schedule of the broadcasts, is available at www.tgslc.org/telethons/access/ .
