2013 Founders’ Award recipients named
Ellen M. Painter, retired director of marketing and volunteer for the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton, and the Denton Benefit League will be honored for their exceptional service to the Denton community and to Texas Woman’s University as the 2013 TWU Founders’ Awards recipients.
Painter has been a fixture of the Denton community for more than 20 years as both a community advocate and volunteer.
Her contributions to the Denton community include serving as a member of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, which includes being a member of the chamber’s board of directors for six years and the board chair from 2001-02; being a lifetime member of the United Way of Denton County Board of Directors and serving as its chair from 2005-06; serving on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society’s Denton Unit and serving as its chair from 1999-2001; a board member of the American Heart Association-Denton; and serving as chair of the Go Red for Women Heart Luncheon from 2004-10.
Painter also has had a long relationship with TWU. She first connected with the university through her employer — then Denton Community Hospital — agreeing to sponsor TWU athletics more than 15 years ago. Since then, Painter has been involved in several TWU initiatives and events, including the annual Power of a Healthy Woman event, the TWU Health Fair and as a member of the TWU Founders’ Award Scholarship Luncheon Advisory Committee.
The awards will be presented at the annual TWU Founders’ Awards Scholarship Luncheon at noon April 25 in Hubbard Hall on TWU’s Denton campus.
David Rylander, TWU associate professor of marketing, will serve as the keynote speaker for the luncheon.
Seats for the event are $40 per person. Patron seats are available for $75. Benefactor tables for eight are available for $750. For information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Patrice Benfield Frisby at 940-898-3867. Reservations are required by April 12.
