Mini golf tourney raises more than $15,000

The 11th annual NCTC Denton County Foundation miniature golf tournament raised more than $15,000 for a scholarship fund to help Denton County students.

A record 167 people played during the event, including business leaders, school administrators and students. In addition to the competition, there was a barbecue dinner, silent auction and a performance by the NCTC Jazz Band.

In its 11-year history, the tournament has raised more than $130,000 for scholarships and awarded 260 scholarships to help local students.

Surgical tech graduates earn national recognition

More than 90 percent of NCTC students who took the Certified Surgical Technologist exam passed, earning the school the annual merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

This encompasses all exams taken by NCTC students between Aug. 1, 2012, through July 31, 2013. The CST is widely recognized in the health care community as the foremost credential for surgical technologists and is typically required for employment.

NCTC switching to Canvas learning system

NCTC will begin replacing the ANGEL learning management system with Canvas LMS next fall to deliver all NCTC eCampus courses.

Instructure launched Canvas in February 2011 and has since attracted more than 500 institutions. Today it services more than 9 million teachers and students around the world.
