Student to attend CGI University
Danielle Lane, a junior psychology major from Lewisville, has received a full scholarship from the American Association of University Women to attend the seventh Clinton Global Initiative University later this month.
The conference will take place at Arizona State University, with former President Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea Clinton, serving as hosts. To participate, students must present a “Commitment to Action” that defines their commitments’ goals, outlines planned activities and identifies how long it will realistically take to complete their projects. At the university, donors make funding commitments to projects.
The plan has to be within one of the five focus areas of education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation or public health.
Lane’s Commitment to Action addresses lack of support for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community throughout Texas. The plan shows how to provide safe houses for LGBT members who were victims of intimate partner violence.
