Professor to lead state professional organization

A TWU professor will be the next president of the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a nonprofit professional organization with more than 4,000 members.

Martha Rew, who has been an associate clinical professor at TWU for more than 20 years, was voted into the position by her peers in the organization. She will begin in the position in 2015.

Official named to agency’s hall of fame

Mary Saunders, executive director of TWU’s Leadership Institute and a retired U.S. Air Force major general, was inducted into the Defense Logistics Agency Hall of Fame.

Saunders was one of five inducted into the hall of fame in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, last month for her contributions to the agency, where she was the first woman to be vice director. Additionally, she was the first female general in the Air Force to serve as director of transportation.

Battle of the Backboards scheduled for Thursday

Denton-area first responders will play a game of wheelchair basketball against military members Thursday in the second annual Battle of the Backboards.

The competition, hosted by TWU’s Project INVEST (Injured Veterans Entering Sport Training), is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kitty Magee Arena.

More first responders are needed for the game, and do not need to have a wheelchair to be eligible. Those interested can contact Ron Davis at rdavis4@twu.edu.
