Autism activist slated to speak in Dallas

Temple Grandin, a prominent advocate in the autism community, will speak in Dallas as part of a program presented by UNT and Autism Comprehensive Educational Services. Anyone interested in learning about autism can attend, including parents and educators.

Grandin was diagnosed with autism as a child and went on to earn a doctoral degree in animal science, write books and become the subject of an HBO biopic.

Grandin’s lecture is titled “Educating Students With Different Kinds of Minds.”

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, April 13 at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Ave. in Dallas. Tickets cost $20. To purchase tickets, visit https://one.unt.edu/temple-grandin-seminar.


Panelists to discuss freedom of the press

Five panelists will discuss the role of the First Amendment during the tenure of President Donald Trump in a free event hosted by the Mayborn School of Journalism on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Moderated by freelance reporter Rebecca Aguilar, the two-hour session titled “First Amendment: Under Siege?” will have panelists discuss the amendment’s current role in democracy.

Panelists are Aman Batheja, political editor of The Texas Tribune; Michael Lindenberger, editorial writer for The Dallas Morning News; Matt Mackowiak, president of Potomac Strategy Group, a conservative consulting company; Paul Walter, a First Amendment and media law lawyer; and Wendy Watson, a senior lecturer in UNT’s political science department.
