AUBREY -- Aubrey school board members have extended Superintendent James Monaco's contract through June 2015.

The extension, approved at a board meeting last Wednesday, added an additional year to Monaco's current contract with the district.

"I appreciate the vote of support and the good people [I've] got to work with," Monaco said. "I kind of feel like Lou Gehrig - the luckiest man in the world. It's been a great run, 28 years."

Also at the meeting, board members were presented with results from a parent survey conducted last fall. A total of 272 parents completed the survey during October through December.

According to the survey, 87 percent of parents were satisfied or very satisfied with Aubrey schools, and 96 percent of parents surveyed indicated their children felt safe in school.

Survey respondents indicated areas where the district could improve: general communication, teacher websites, and ensuring district communication is accurate and updated.
