Blotter: Woman says grandma stole ID, $20,000

A Text Size

A woman told Denton police Thursday that she has learned that her grandmother has been stealing from her for years.

The victim said she has been trying to get a job and recently learned that her credit score is hindering employment. When she checked, she learned that since 2009 her grandmother has been using her Social Security number to open accounts for TV and cellphone service and several of them have been closed for nonpayment.

She then checked an account that is supposed to be reserved for grant funds for education. She learned that $20,000 has been siphoned from the account. Her grandmother formerly had a joint checking account with her, the victim said, and she believes the woman used her information to steal from her.

Other reports

1100 block of Austin Street - A man reported that someone broke into his truck, allowing his small dog to escape, and stole his tools.

The man said he left the dog in the truck while he met a worker at a house. He was gone for about 25 minutes, he said, and he left the windows partially open.

When he returned, the dog was missing, but he found it nearby. He drove away but later realized that most of his tools were missing from a bag.
