10 a.m. - The Peters Colony Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas host a program on researching Texas land records at Lake Forest Good Samaritan Village, 3901 Montecito Drive in Denton. 10 to 11 a.m. - "Play and Read With Puppets" at North Branch Library, 3020 N. Locust St. This come-and-go program encourages dramatic play and narrative skills formation in a fun, entertaining way. For children ages 2-5 and their caregivers. Free. Call 940-349-8752.

10 to 11:30 a.m. - Denton Benefit League's Kids in Motion event at the Center for Visual Arts, 400 E. Hickory St. Activities will include a ceramics project, a craft project for Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home, blankets for animals at Denton Animal Shelter and Valentine's Day cards for residents of Dogwood Estates. Refreshments and entertainment will be offered. Admission is a new or gently used book. Children who participate will be invited back to deliver their crafts on afternoons in February. 11 a.m. - A Ranger Talk program on birds at the Isle du Bois Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Participants will meet at the park's Interpretive Center. 2 to 3 p.m. - Travel Club at Emily Fowler Central Library, 502 Oakland St. Discuss travel locations, see a presentation led by a member, and enjoy refreshments. Call 940-349-8752.

2 p.m. - "Let's Talk Trees," an interactive discussion and a guided hike, at the Johnson Branch Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Led by park interpreter Bethany Galster. Participants should meet at the Johnson Branch amphitheater, near the kids' fishing pond. Admission to the park is $5 for those older than 13 and free for those 12 and younger. 2 to 4 p.m. - Author John Manning signs copies of the self-published thriller Black Stump Ridge at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Golden Triangle Mall, 2201 S. I-35E.

3 to 4 p.m. - "Science Fair FAQs" at Emily Fowler Central Library, 502 Oakland St. Learn what it takes to make a winning science fair project. A retired professor and former science fair judge will answer questions for parents and kids 5 and older. Free. Call 940-349-8752.

6:30 p.m. - Denton Public School Foundation's Groundhog Day Gala at the UNT Gateway Center, 801 North Texas Blvd. between Eagle Drive and Highland Street. Includes a seated dinner and silent and live auctions. Cost is $60 per person, and tickets are limited. To check availability, call 940-369-0143.

8 p.m. - UNT Concert and Symphony Orchestras in Winspear Hall at the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 1200 N. Texas Blvd. Tickets are $8-$10. Call 940-369-7802.
