GOP group announces scholarship contest

The Denton County Republican Party has announced its seventh-annual scholarship contest.

The scholarship program provides for two $500 scholarships to be given to outstanding, conservative young Texans.

Previous recipients have included students attending the University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, Dallas Baptist University, North Central Texas College and Rice University.

The scholarships will be awarded to Republican students meeting the following requirements:

•  Denton County resident;

•  either an entering fall 2012 freshman or current student at a Texas institution of higher education;

•  full-time student taking 12 or more semester hours if in college; and

•  if of voting age and eligible, must be a registered voter and must show active GOP involvement.

Scholarship applications and more information are available at www.dentongop.org.

All applications must be received by June 1 and must be accompanied by a current transcript copy (or admission letter if entering freshman), resume and at least one letter of recommendation from a known Republican.

Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the July meeting of the Denton County Republican Executive Committee.
