Goldfield mansion may be auctioned

The megamansion of Al and Shirley Goldfield, which has been up for sale for several years, may be headed to the auction block.

New York luxury real estate auction house Concierge Auctions is planning a late-March auction for the huge Champ D’or residence in Hickory Creek.

The Goldfields also are working with luxury firm Sotheby’s International Realty to find a buyer for their home.

“The real estate market is down and they have greater success selling properties that large than Realtors do,” Shirley Goldfield said. “We were advised they’d be the best ones to go with, so we went with them.”

The 48,000-square-foot French-inspired house is on 25 acres overlooking a 1.5-acre lake.

The grand chateau has been on the market since 2003 — most recently with an asking price of $35 million. The large Denton County spread includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a tennis court, ballroom, garden and a veranda that seats 450 for dinner. There’s a two-story closet in the master bedroom. Other amenities include a theater, bowling alley, racquetball court and a 15-car garage.

Concierge Auctions sells deluxe homes all over the world, including a $7.3 million mountain lodge in Wyoming and an $8.7 million Hawaiian home that was owned by Cher.

Most of the posh homes are auctioned with a minimum bid. Concierge Auctions said it has sold more than $2 billion in properties in the last 10 years.

The Champ D’or mansion was built between 1998 and 2002, and previously was listed for sale by several top North Texas residential sales firms.

In addition to trying to sell the mansion, the Goldfields have been working on the development of a special taxing district around the home. That would include retail and high-density housing with hundreds of multifamily units.

The district would be set on 140 acres of their land, part of which is inside the Hickory Creek town limits.

The Goldfields have received the green light from the Hickory Creek Town Council to develop the land and the process is ongoing.

Dallas-based attorney Misty Ventura, who is handling the development, said plans are in motion to create a public improvement district. The tentative creation date is March 27. The goal is to go before the Town Council and conduct the required public meetings to begin the first phase of the development on the northwest corner of Parkridge Drive and Turbeville Road.
