AUBREY — Police are still investigating a fatal accident that occurred between a pickup and tractor at about 11 a.m. Friday on FM428.
Aubrey police Sgt. William Townsend said Friday afternoon that investigators believe they know the identity of the single occupant of the white extended-cab Ford pickup but cannot be positive until further investigation by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. They believe the man was an Aubrey resident, he said.
The truck was westbound when it topped a hill just west of Wildcat Road and struck a John Deere tractor that was traveling slowly on the eastbound shoulder.
“There is no indication of skid marks,” Townsend said. “The truck crossed over the double lines into the oncoming lane and struck the tractor, on the shoulder.”
The sergeant said the driver of the tractor suffered minor injuries.
The truck burst into flames and soon was engulfed in fire. The tractor also was burned, he said. Denton County death investigator Bill Mills declared the pickup driver dead at the scene.
FM428 was shut down for hours while officers from Aubrey, Denton County traffic investigators and the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated at the scene and removed the vehicles.
“The tractor driver had no warning and no indication of why the truck crossed over the double lines,” Townsend said. “We hope to know more after further investigation.”
