After Argyle ballots were counted and results posted, incumbents were ousted, challengers were defeated and a runoff was scheduled.
Place 3 Town Council candidates Joan Delashaw and Jackie Thomas learned they will face off again in a runoff June 23.
The candidates each received 320 votes, according to results Saturday night.
“We’re waiting on provisions we’re told are coming Monday,” Thomas said. “Other than that, we will wait for a runoff.”
Thomas said she had no expectations as to how the race would go.
Given the tie, she said, she will keep campaigning as she has the past several weeks.
“I have the support of the two candidates that won,” she said. “Hopefully, their supporters will rally behind me in the runoff.”
Delashaw was unavailable for comment.
In Place 1, incumbent Joey Hasty came out on top with 55.2 percent of the vote in his victory over Larry Simmons. Hasty had said he wanted to continue work he has done over two terms, while Simmons had said the town faced unacceptable debt from certificates of obligation handed down to the taxpayers without their approval. Simmons had pledged to change that practice.
“I’m a little disappointed. I expected to win, but I didn’t. I congratulate him,” Simmons said.
Hasty said he was thankful to be able to continue serving the residents of Argyle.
“I don’t know what to say other than it was a lot of good people in Argyle, and [I was] lucky I had the citizens of Argyle behind me,” he said.
Peggy Krueger soundly defeated her two opponents, Dona Schroetke and Trey Thurston, in the three-way race for the Place 5 Town Council seat. Krueger garnered 55.6 percent of the vote.
Schroetke, who has switched places on the ballot with Jackie Thomas, was running to be able to answer comments and charges made by Thurston against her. In the end, she only managed to get 5.44 percent of the 608 ballots cast in the race.
None of the candidates were available for comment.
