Members of the Denton County Amateur Radio Association invite the public to observe the capabilities of ham radio during a field day exercise from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Texas Motor Speedway, 3545 Lone Star Circle in Fort Worth.
The exercise is the climax of Amateur Radio Week, sponsored by the American Radio Relay League, the national association for amateur radio.
These radio operators, often called “hams,” provide backup communications for organizations ranging from the American Red Cross to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as the International Space Station, according to a press release.
In addition to meeting and talking with Denton County ham radio operators, visitors can learn how to get their own radio license.
