Argyle voters made sure there was no tie this time as they elected Joan Delashaw to the Place 3 Town Council seat.
A tie between Delashaw and Jackie Thomas forced the runoff that Delashaw won with 51 percent of the vote, a mere 12 votes more than Thomas.
“I’m glad the election is over, and I appreciate all my supporters and how hard they worked for me and I look forward to representing them on the council,” Delashaw said.
While campaigning, Delashaw had said the town needs to be frugal while still providing necessary services and avoiding more long-term debt. She had said one of the greatest challenges for the town was to elect a council member who would work with all council members, including the mayor, to promote quality development while maintaining Argyle’s charm.
She said she expected it to be the tight race the results showed it to be and said she was surprised at the number (600) of voters who cast ballots in the runoff. Delashaw and Thomas each received 320 votes in the May 12 election.
Thomas previously served in Place 5, but switched places with Dona Schroetke to run in Place 3.
Thomas could not be reached for comment Saturday night.
