The Denton County Health Department confirmed three additional cases of West Nile disease Monday, bringing the total number of the county’s confirmed human cases to six.
The latest cases occurred in Denton, Highland Village and the southern portion of unincorporated Denton County.
Most people, when exposed to West Nile through a mosquito bite, experience only minor symptoms. Those who experience more serious, flu-like symptoms should seek a doctor’s care.
The county health department urges residents to continue to take precautions to reduce the risk, including wearing insect repellent and proper clothing, avoiding going out at dusk and dawn, and ridding surrounding property of stagnant water — which is breeding ground for mosquitoes.
