Wedding plans get lift with win

Rachel Morris of Denton and her fiance Josh German no longer have to worry about paying for their wedding venue when they get married next year.

The couple recently won Texas Old Town’s 2012 Great Wedding Giveaway. Texas Old Town is a wedding and reception facility in Kyle.

“It is amazing,” Morris said. “It’s a huge relief.”

Morris said she’d already booked the venue for her April 6, 2013, wedding before she knew about the contest.

She was encouraged to enter and she received an e-mail while she was on vacation that she and her fiance had won.

The 179 contestants entered the contest, which ran from April 4 to July 4, by posting their engagement story on Facebook and having friends “like” it.

Morris’ parents, who are paying for the wedding, will now get that money back, she said.

“It’s not going to be quite as tight as it would have been before,” she said.

Danny German, general manager of Texas Old Town, said this is the first year the facility has held the contest.

“Texas Old Town is one location made up of four venues,” he said.

Danny German said he and Josh German are not related.

He said the cost to rent Redbud Hall, which Morris and Josh German booked for their wedding, is about $3,000.

Morris and Josh German, who is a pilot in the National Guard, initially met about 11 years ago when their parents were in the same Bible study. The families moved afterward, but decided to have a get-together last summer.

“It was almost like an instant connection,” Morris said of seeing Josh German again.

Morris was a student at the University of North Texas when the couple started dating in November and he proposed to her in front of the fountain located at the UNT Library Mall in April.

Morris describes herself as a “laid-back” bride. The one area she is picky about is the photographer.

“I feel incredibly blessed,” she said.
