The city of Denton has approved at least two permits to allow Kohl’s department store to operate at Rayzor Ranch Marketplace on West University Drive, and city economic development leaders expect the retail store to finalize a lease in the next two weeks.
RED Development LLC, the Arizona-based shopping center developer of Rayzor Ranch, has been getting the site ready, said Linda Ratliff, director of economic development for the city of Denton.
The city is looking forward to the store coming in, she said.
“Their sales are going to be great and our sales tax is going to go up,” Ratliff said.
The store, which sells clothing and home products, will be at 2620 W. University Drive. Its utilities and parking lot permits have been approved, according to the city’s website.
“It’s another good reason for other retailers to locate out there,” Ratliff said of Rayzor Ranch Marketplace.
Neither Kohl’s nor RED Development will confirm the department store is coming to Denton because a lease has not been signed.
“We can’t say anything definitive,” said Robyn Young, spokeswoman for the developer. “I’m not able to speak on their behalf.”
Kohl’s spokeswoman Vicki Shamion wrote in an e-mail Wednesday that the company has not announced any plans to open a new store in Denton.
“Kohl’s has an ongoing real estate assessment process,” Shamion wrote. “At any given time, Kohl’s is reviewing sites in communities nationwide. We do not comment on real estate speculation.”
