ARGYLE — Two-term trustee Brenda Alexander has resigned from the Argyle school board.
Board members approved her resignation 6-0 at a meeting Monday.
Kevin Faciane, board president, said Alexander submitted her resignation Aug. 6.
“She was an excellent board member,” he said Monday. “We hate to see her go, but we will move on as a district.”
In her resignation letter addressed to Faciane and Superintendent Telena Wright, Alexander thanked the Argyle community “for the opportunity to act as their voice in our district.”
“I am proud to have served the students, teachers and the community of Argyle,” Alexander said by phone Tuesday.
Her letter gave no reason for her resignation, and she declined further comment about it.
Wright said Alexander was a dedicated board member who worked hard for the district’s students and staff.
Alexander was first elected to the school board in May 2007.
In her time as a trustee, the district opened Argyle Intermediate School in 2008, and voters passed a $20.75 million bond in 2007, funding facility renovations, the land acquisition, site preparation and design for a future campus, band furniture and instruments, field turf, stadium renovations, technology and transportation.
Alexander’s current term on the board expires next May.
Faciane said the school board will decide at its next regular meeting whether to leave Alexander’s seat vacant until the May election, appoint someone to the seat or call a special election to fill the vacant spot.
