Denton police are participating in a Labor Day DWI crackdown that will be in effect until Sept. 5.
Officer Ryan Grelle, who acts as a spokesman for the police department, said the effort began Sunday and will continue past the Labor Day weekend.
The crackdown includes a “no-refusal” program. That means that if any driver suspected of being intoxicated refuses to take a breath test, officers will obtain a warrant and take the driver to a hospital for a blood test to determine blood alcohol content.
The Denton traffic section will have extra patrol cars out, especially at night, Grelle said. College students from Denton’s two universities are back in town, adding to concerns of drunken driving.
