A Denton County reserve deputy constable and former juvenile probation officer has been placed on leave from his current position as a freshman counselor for the Grapevine-Colleyville school district pending results of an investigation into allegations that he had an improper relationship with a student.

Kerry D. Jones, 50, of Trophy Club is a reserve deputy with the Precinct 4 constable’s office in southern Denton County. Constable John Hatzenbuhler said Wednesday that Jones has been placed on administrative leave there until the investigation is over.

“As soon as we heard about the investigation, we put him on leave,” Hatzenbuhler said.

Trophy Club Police Commander Lee Delk said Wednesday that the department received a referral from Child Protective Services on Aug. 8 and began an investigation. That investigation is ongoing, Delk said, and no charges have been filed.

Delk said he is not sure how much longer the investigation will take.

The allegation concerns a Colleyville student who has graduated, the commander said. He declined to confirm the gender of the student or the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

Jones could not be reached for comment. He is on administrative leave from the school district.

Denton County employee records show that Jones served as a juvenile probation officer from December 1986 to August 1992. The county records show he has been a reserve officer since February 2005.

Jones also serves on the Northwest school district board, winning an election in 2011. He had been a counselor with that school district for 17 years, according to his election site.

Northwest school district spokeswoman Lesley Weaver issued a statement Aug. 22 saying that the district is concerned about the allegations and is cooperating with law enforcement authorities.

“Northwest ISD is complying with laws pertaining to board service. As an elected school board member, he has the legal rights to continue service on the board during this time,” according to the statement.
