The passenger of a pickup moving furniture early Friday stepped out of the truck, walked into the path of another vehicle and died at the scene on Interstate 35E at the I-35W split.
Police spokesman Ryan Grelle said officers responded at 12:22 a.m. to the accident in the southbound left lane of the Interstate roadway.
“A chair fell out of the back of the truck and they pulled over,” Grelle said. “The driver said he would get it, but the passenger got out and walked in front of an oncoming vehicle and was struck and killed.”
The name of the victim has not been released.
Grelle said the other driver is cooperating with police and no charges have been filed as yet.
