OAK POINT — Work crews reopened McCormick Road in Oak Point for the weekend, but they will close the road again Tuesday after the holiday.

Road crews are repairing McCormick Road from FM720 to Naylor Road in Oak Point. The first phase of the project, which ends today, involved preparing the road base.

Contractors removed and patched failed road portions  Thursday and Friday.

On Tuesday, crews will enter the project’s second phase, which involves laying additional base preparation work. Several hundred feet of the eastern portion of McCormick Road will be reconstructed, requiring a complete closure of McCormick Road until the end of the week.

Residents will be able to access McCormick Road during the closure from either Naylor Road or Winchester Lane.

The final phase of the project, which begins Sept. 10, is a partnership between Oak Point and Denton County and will involve closing the road again and resurfacing the entire length with hot-mix asphalt.

Labor will be provided at no cost to the city through the county’s road maintenance program.

The cost for the materials is expected to be $72,624, which will be funded by the city’s capital projects fund.

Officials said resurfacing should take no longer than two days to complete.

While McCormick Road is closed, Martop Road can be used as an alternate route to and from FM720, said Oak Point City Manager Douglas Mousel.
