Matthew Cox, 13, of Shady Shores has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement for Boy Scouts of America. He has been involved in scouting since first grade and has been a member of the Boy Scouts’ Order of the Arrow for two years.

His Court of Honor where he will receive his honor is scheduled for Saturday at Lake Sharon Community Center in Corinth.

For his Eagle Scout community service project, Cox organized the placement of PVC pipe holders for flags and flowers at the headstones of veterans buried in the Shiloh Cemetery. Other Boy Scouts helped Cox sand and paint the service building and seats, and refurbish the sign at the cemetery.

He is a freshman at Ryan High School and the son of Rick and Melody Cox. He is the grandson of Betty Smith Vaughn of Shady Shores.
