The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified two men who died in the crash of a small plane near Northwest Regional Airport in Roanoke on Saturday.
Christopher Pratt, 41, of Argyle was dead at the scene, while his passenger, Charles Yates, 63, of Grapevine died later at an area hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have reported that Pratt died on impact when the plane he was flying crashed while taking off from the airport before 1:30 p.m. Saturday. According to the medical examiner’s report, the accident occurred when the plane lost power.
Yates was taken by air ambulance to a Fort Worth hospital, where he later died, said Lonny Haschel, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Piper Arrow PA-28R-180 was attempting to take off when it lost altitude for an undetermined reason, Haschel said.
The plane crashed about 500 feet from the runway in a wooded area in Northlake, he said.
The Roanoke Fire Department responded to the call, which came in at 1:22 p.m. Saturday.
The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
