Blotter: Thieves cause $18,000 in losses to auto dealership

An auto dealership employee reported Wednesday that someone cut through a back fence on the property to allow access to some of the vehicles for sale.

The thieves took six radio-navigation systems worth $2,000 each and caused about $1,000 in damages to each vehicle, according to the report, for a total loss of $18,000.

 

Other reports

600 block of East Hickory Street — A woman reported to police by an e-mail that she came home Tuesday and found two boxes that had been delivered to her house on her front porch. One had held shoes worth $140 and the other had held a handbag worth $360.

Both boxes had been cut open and the merchandise was gone.

700 block of Kimberly Drive — A company employee reported Wednesday that someone broke into a portable building at a work site and took 16 rolls of copper. The rolls held copper worth a total $8,656, according to the report.

900 block of Prairie Street — A woman said Wednesday that someone came into her home while her terminally ill husband was there by himself and stole his morphine and another painkiller.

She said she was gone for several hours and when she returned she found donated clothing on her bed that was her size and shoes that also fit her. But the medications were missing from the refrigerator and also missing was a $300 silver cross necklace.

Her husband was not able to tell her whether anyone was in the house, she said.

From 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday:

•  Denton police handled 230 service and officer-initiated calls, including two burglaries, one sexual assault, three reports of harassment, three thefts, one case of possession of marijuana, one case of possession of drug paraphernalia, one runaway, four cases of criminal mischief, one assault, one vehicle burglary, one debit card abuse, one threat and one domestic disturbance.

•  Denton County Sheriff’s dispatchers handled 538 service and officer-initiated calls for the agencies they serve. Forty-four people were booked into county jail. Deputies took one fraud report.

•  Denton firefighters responded to 11 medical calls, three traffic accidents, one request for public service, one lockout, three alarms, one water problem and one request to assist police.

Argyle firefighters responded to two medical calls, one controlled burn and one traffic accident.

Aubrey firefighters responded to one medical call and one request to unlock a vehicle.

Double Oak firefighters responded to one medical call.

Krum firefighters responded to one medical call.

Lake Cities firefighters responded to one hazardous materials incident, one medical call and one road hazard.

Pilot Point firefighters responded to one traffic accident.

Sanger firefighters responded to one medical call.
