The city of Denton is joining a scofflaw program at the Denton County Tax Assessor/Collector’s office. Beginning Monday, the tax office will place a hold on vehicle registration renewals if the owner has unpaid fines on Denton’s photo-enforced traffic lights, Denton police announced.

Officer Gary Craig said vehicle owners whose tickets have been outstanding for 91 days or more will not be able to renew their vehicle until the fines are paid.

About 10,000 red-light camera citations in Denton remain unpaid, police said.
