Man, conscious, being taken to hospital

A Denton County sheriff’s deputy shot a man during a traffic stop Monday afternoon on FM1173 near Plainview Road west of Krum after the driver attempted to ram the deputy’s patrol car, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Spokesman Tom Reedy said the shooting occurred at 4:23 p.m.

There were two people in the car at the time, Reedy said, and the deputy fired two shots, striking the driver. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was conscious and breathing and was being taken to an area hospital, Reedy said.

It was not immediately clear why the deputy was making the traffic stop, Reedy said.
