Pre-filing for the 83rd session of the Texas Legislature began Monday.

State Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, authored 15 of the 97 bills pre-filed in the Texas State Senate on Monday.

State Sen. Craig Estes, R-Wichita Falls, filed one.

Many of the bills reflected needs in health and human services, including an omnibus bill, Senate Bill 56, for Medicaid fraud prevention.

Nelson is the chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.

Estes pre-filed Senate Bill 113 relating to the repeal of the franchise tax.

The first day of the legislative session is Jan. 8.
