The Village Church will have its 26th annual Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria at Calhoun Middle School.

Those seeking a place to share in the food and fellowship of Thanksgiving will have a place to find both Thursday.

A few local churches are having annual Thanksgiving meals for those who do not have the ways or the means to provide it for themselves.

The Village Church will have its 26th annual Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafeteria at Calhoun Middle School.

Isaac Arranda, a clerk with the church, said delivery is also being offered to those who need it.

“We only do it to the disabled and elderly and those confined to the home; we have them call up here and take information on where they are going to be,” he said.

There were more than 100 deliveries last year, Arranda said.

About 2,000 people came to enjoy the meal at the school last year.

The Salvation Army of Denton will not have a Thanksgiving meal this year. Instead, it is lending support to the Village Church and the Rapha Life Center Church.

“When we get donations in, we share the donations with them so we can help provide things to serve our community,” Salvation Army Sgt. Carol Hernandez said.

In addition, for the normal food pantry day, some extra food will be given out to help with the holiday meals to those who need them.

“We have some meats donated for Thanksgiving Day baskets we have purchased through our local food bank. We get items penny on the pound, so we purchased meats for our food baskets we give out every week.”

Hernandez said the Salvation Army is also accepting turkeys to hand out.

In Aubrey, Prazim Ministries will have its eighth annual Thanksgiving Day meal for the community Saturday.

Mary Holland said she started the event because there were certain people who just didn’t have a place to go or family locally.

“And then I just decided to do it for the community,” Holland said. “I had 22 families tell us last year that if I had not done this, they would have no place to go.”
