Driver killed in crash at Pilot Point rail crossing

A freight train collided with a vehicle at a crossing on FM455 near U.S. Highway 377 in Pilot Point, killing the driver of the vehicle.

A driver was struck and killed by a train in Pilot Point Saturday morning.

According to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office, a man tried to beat an oncoming train at the intersection of U.S. Highway 377 and FM455 shortly after 9:30 a.m. The train struck his vehicle, which took out the railroad crossing arms, poles and signals at the intersection before it landed upside down in a ditch, authorities said.

The intersection remained blocked until cleanup was complete around noon. Pilot Point police is the lead investigative team with assistance from the Department of Public Safety.

No other injuries were reported, and the driver’s identity had not been released. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting the autopsy.
