Lewisville police believe extreme fatigue was the lead factor in a deadly crash Sunday morning on Interstate 35E.

At 7 a.m. Sunday, a family was traveling northbound in the 3000 block of I-35E in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer when the vehicle swerved and struck a concrete barrier before rolling several times, killing two and injuring four others, according to police.

Police said the driver, 22-year-old Alfonso Brown, fell asleep while driving. Once the vehicle began to swerve, Brown woke up and overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to strike the barrier.

The two people killed were identified as Dennis Walker, 29, who was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, and Recardo Mancilla, 29, who later died from accident-related injuries at Medical Center of Lewisville.

Police identified Billy Rosales, 24, as the front-seat passenger.

Francisco Martinez, 25, and Marvin Cortez, 25, were seated in the back seat and not wearing seat belts.

Brown, Rosales, Cortez and Mancilla have been treated and released from area hospitals.

According to the police, the vehicle’s occupants were residents of Lincoln, Neb., traveling from Houston.
