Aimee Bissett has been appointed as Denton’s director of economic development.

The city announced her appointment Wednesday. She will replace the longtime director of economic development, Linda Ratliff, who retires this month. Bissett first day in the new position is Jan. 5.

Currently the program manager and executive director of Keep Denton Beautiful, Bissett previously served as director of development for the Citizens Development Center. Prior experience included serving as executive director of the American Pregnancy Association and a program manager for Lutheran Social Services of the South Inc.

Bissett received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Texas A&M University and is expected to receive her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas at Arlington in May.

She holds certification in economic development from the Texas Economic Development Council.

She also is a member of the Denton Parks Foundation’s board of directors.
