KRUM — The city of Krum has posted an opening to fill the city secretary position after the current secretary announced her intention to resign.

City Secretary Mindy Bruce’s last day is Jan. 18 and she said she’s leaving because she took a private-sector job based in Fort Worth.

Bruce, who has worked for the city since August 2011, said she looks forward to the change after working for the city for a little over a year and a half.

“It was just time for a change,” she said.

The city accepted Bruce’s resignation earlier this week during a City Council meeting.

The city is taking applications to fill the position left by Bruce. She said the city will collect applications until Monday.

Officials said the city secretary’s job requirements include coordinating and conducting services related to maintaining city records, elections and agenda and minutes preparation.

The secretary reports to the mayor but also coordinates activities with the council.

Officials encourage applicants familiar with retaining city records, reading city ordinances and following the Texas Open Meeting Act to apply.

A minimum of four years of related work experience and two years as a city secretary is preferred.

Preference will be given to applicants who have bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management or related field or a municipal clerk’s certification, officials said.

The city also seeks to fill a police officer position that opened recently after Sgt. Tyler Roy resigned to work for the Cook County’s Sheriff’s Office.

Roy started with the city of Krum in August 2007 and Officer Terry Hargis was promoted to sergeant in response to Roy’s resignation.

Police Chief Dennis Bassinger posted notice of the opening in his department, and interested applicants must be Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education certified to apply.

People interested in applying for either the city secretary or the police officer position can pick up an application at Krum City Hall at 146 W. McCart St. or on the city’s website, www.ci.krum.tx.us .
