Two University of North Texas students are excited to have the opportunity to sing their jingle on the Today show on Tuesday.
Andrew Walker and Kayley Walker — who are unrelated although they share the same last name — will compete with two other bands to see which one has the best jingle for the show. They call their band The Walkers.
“This is crazy to be going to New York and singing on TV,” said Kayley Walker, 20, a junior majoring in radio, television and film.
She said she is excited to see the show behind the scenes.
“We weren’t really thinking we’d have a chance of winning,” said Andrew Walker, 20, a junior majoring in music. He plays the cello and piano.
They heard about the Quest for the Best Contest through Kayley Walker’s aunt.
She said she went home the day she heard about it and picked out a few chords, called Andrew to collaborate and then her mom shot a video of them on her iPhone.
Kayley said it was fun working the anchors’ names into the song.
“It was like figuring out the puzzle,” she said.
They have known each other since junior year of high school, and one day while Kayley was listening to one of Andrew’s songs on YouTube, she thought of lyrics to go with it.
She called him up, and they’ve collaborated on 15 songs since then.
