Denton Community Theatre will perform a one-act cutting of Lanie Robertson’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill at 3 p.m. today at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theatre, 100 N. Charles St.

The local theater company is competing in the American Association of Community Theatre’s festival contest, presented in the North Texas region by Texas Nonprofit Theatres. Also competing is Grapevine’s Ohlook Performing Arts Center, which will stage Duncan Sheik’s Spring Awakening.

Lady Day is a one-woman show about an illegal performance by Billie Holiday in a seedy Philadelphia bar just four months before her death.

Tickets to the contest cost $10. To make reservations, visit Tickets are also available at the door.

DCT took the championship at the event — called AACTFest — in 2007 with a cutting of the musical Crowns. The award-winning play was then invited to an international festival in Germany.
